Solid Word Bible Church
Our History

The conception of Solid Word Bible Church took place late 1999, early 2000 when Pastor Michael Troy Smith conveyed to his wife Angela E. Smith, that the Lord had put it on his heart to start a church. With the direction from the Lord, the love and support from his wife, prayer and a few dollars, the journey began for what has grown to be a new hope in the city of Indianapolis, Indiana.

The first service was held at the Quality Inn on Shadeland Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana, Sunday April 2, 2000. Over 100 attended the first service.

Month by month, Christians were added to the fellowship. Within two months Pastor Smith held his first church meeting with members to inform them of his hope and purpose for the church and its members. In one year the number of members grew to over 80 and each was a blessing to the church. SWBC was blessed to hold Sunday School and Sunday morning worship services at Nora Elementary School, located at 91st and College Avenue, until the end of May 2001. SWBC received blessings upon blessings as Faith United Missionary Church, located on the north-east corner of 91st street, where Pastor Brian Boone, Senior Pastor and Pastor Dave Baldwin, Pastor of Adult Ministries of FMC started a supportive relationship with Pastor Smith. Faith Missionary came alongside and diligently aided in the development of SWBC in everyway possible. This was surely God's stamp of approval for Faith to come to the aid of SWBC and encourage Pastor Smith to act upon his spiritual gift of pastoring a flock and teaching God's word. Faith United was very generous and provided an office for Pastor Smith. The Lord continues to bless Solid Word through Faith Missionary's devotion and contributions.

The first Sunday of June 2001, SWBC was again blessed by Pastor Jeff Krajewski, of Common Ground Christian Church, located at 6151 Central Avenue who opened their church doors so that SWBC could have a place to worship on Sunday mornings.

Through much prayer, God revealed to Pastor Smith that it was time to make a move so that SWBC could have our own facility; and that it was time to stop sojourning from place to place. God made a way for SWBC to start procedures to renovate a deserted unit in a strip mall, located behind Lafayette Square Mall, Indianapolis, Indiana, for a place to worship. We held our last worship service October 7, 2001 at Common Ground Christian Church and held our dedication service October 14th at our new church home, located at 4726 Century Plaza Road, Indianapolis, Indiana where we had over 200 attendees.

Sunday School is held an hour before Sunday Morning Service. The hour is filled with excellent expository and topical teachings that nourish class participants with a greater appreciation for the Bible. The children are also being fed during this time.

As our congregation has grown over an 18 month period, SWBC added other ministries to meet the many needs of the people. Our ministries have increased, which includes Audio, Children's Choir, Children's Church, Follow-Up, Hospitality, Marriage/ Singles, Outreach/Missions, Praise Team/Choir, Sunday Morning Nursery, Teens ,Ushers and Sign Language.

Sunday Morning Worship exemplifies wonderful praise and adoration to God as the members unite in prayer, scripture readings, singing songs of God?s mercy and grace that is led by the choir, but most importantly, through the expository preaching of God's Holy Word. Hearts and minds are pierced as the Word of God is delivered to the people. Sunday service always closes with inviting unbelievers an opportunity to choose to know Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. On Fourth Sundays we partake in Communion at the morning worship service, but children's church is not available.

While the adults are fed the meat of the Scripture in Sunday Morning Worship, the children from ages five to twelve get the milk and early essentials of the Bible in Children's Church over in the Solid Word Annex. Pastor Smith's goal is to make sure every Christian child is biblically literate and can properly convey the Gospel message to unbelieving children and the world. Week by week children are taught the books of the Bible one at a time. The children are taught the different divisions of the Bible and their purpose for the application in their life. We believe that if we train up a child in the way they should go, when they get older, they want depart from it. The children four years and under are nurtured with love from the volunteers in the Nursery who teach and prepare our junior future leaders. It's never too early to teach our children of the surpassing love of God.

Thursday afternoon Bible Study was added after we moved into our new church home in October of 2001. Thursday nights, Solid Word congregate for a time of prayer where seven issues and concerns, whether church, community or nationally related, are prayed for corporately at that time and throughout the week.

Bible Study immediately follows prayer meeting where members and visitors are equipped with the basics of Christianity and understand roles and responsibilities to know God's and man's position and purpose in the Bible. Each week attendees are fed with a plethora of useful and applicable information with line upon line and precept upon precept, as they see the ways the Bible addresses many issues of everyday life. Surprise quizzes and tests challenge attendees to their attentiveness and further studies of the Bible and prizes are given to show the physical benefits of Bible study.

Throughout the week Pastor Smith mentors the future teachers and preachers of Solid Word Bible Church. He encourages on ?going studies at the collegiate level. Pastor Smith earnestly and continuously prepares to teach and preach God?s word and in addition counsels many people with the Word of God to aid in spiritual growth as well as daily problems.

As Solid Word is continually blessed financially and spiritually, it returns those blessings to the community, financially and spiritually. Each day, Pastor Smith and his members look forward to the privilege and opportunity of serving the community and focus on kingdom building for God. In faithfulness, the Lord builds upon the Solid foundation of Solid Word Bible Church.

ALL PRAISES BE TO OUR FATHER, LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST FOR EVER!!!!
